program note
This piece is an attempt to explore the resonance and vibrancy of a collection of metallic objects, with the prepared piano serving as a center around which the other instruments constellate. The materials were arranged in a number of layers, where an active and insistent surface is underlined by a more static and subterraneous vibration. I hoped to create a certain cumulative energy by tuning together the acoustic instruments and the electrified objects. The title is named after the town of Sunol, California where a so-called “water temple” was erected in 1910 on top of the convergence of three subterranean water sources.
