for alto saxophone and trombone
commissioned by Duo Signal
Alejandro Oliván – alto saxophone
Adrián Albaladejo Díaz – trombone
program note
The piece proposes three observations, or “frames,” of the same material, which appear both on the sectional and phrasal levels. This reiteration of the content is a kind of search for different points of reference to an object. The frames are constructed and then reconstructed in an attempt to capture the sculptural image of a space of transformation— an altar. The title is partly a reference to the sculpture Sequenced Conic Constructions in Three Domains (1994) by David Rabinowitch, a work that exams three iterations of the same conic properties.
